Am 30. April
war es Zeit mich endgültig von Afrika zu verabschieden… nach einem abenteurlichem
halben Jahr quer durch den Kontinent: Äthiopien, Tansania (inklusive Zanzibar),
Malawi, Sambia und Namibiia… Brige hatte mich die letzten 3 Wochen meiner Reise
in Namibia begleitet und das war gut so: 1. half es mich wieder etwas zu
sozialisieren… mich auf meine kommende Reise durch den Nordwesten des viel
besiedelten Kontinentes Europas vorzubereiten und 2. ist Namibia eher teuer…
und Teilen ist die Hälfte! Die zahlreichen Touristen (meist aus Deutschland und
der Schweiz) waren ebenfalls behilflich mich etwas an Europe zu akklimatisieren!
Ja, Namibia lebt vom Tourismus und ich habe noch nie so viele Lodges, auch an
den entferntesten Orten, in einem Land gesehen… für meinen Geschmack ist es zu
touristisch!
Namibia ist
ein grosses Land (824'000 km2) mit nur 3 Mllionen Einwohner... Es
gibt bedeutend mehr Weisse als in den anderen Ländern, die ich in den letzten 6
Monate bereiste… Die Leute sprechen alle englisch und ein verdeutschtes Afrikaans,…
Die Strassen sind eigentlich sehr gut, von A-D bezeichnet und die meisten super
Naturpisten… Das Land besteht grösstenteils aus Savanne und Wüste (64 % Savanne,
16 % Wüste), ist also sehr trocken… dafür fegte ständig ein heftiger Wind um
die Ohren!
On April 30th, it was time to finally say goodbye to Africa… after an adventurous 6 months traveling across the continent: Ethiopia, Tanzania (including Zanzibar), Malawi, Zambia, and Namibia… Brige accompanied me for the last three weeks of my trip in Namibia, and that was a good thing: 1. it helped me to socialize a bit… to prepare for my upcoming trip through the northwest of the densely populated continent of Europe, and 2. Namibia is rather expensive… and sharing is half the battle! The numerous tourists (mostly from Germany and Switzerland) also helped me acclimatize to Europe! Yes, Namibia lives from tourism, and I've never seen so many lodges, even in the most remote locations, in any other country… for my taste, it's too touristy!
Namibia is a large country (824,000 km²) with only 3 million inhabitants. There are significantly more white people than in the other countries I've traveled to in the last 6 months. Everyone speaks English and a Germanized version of Afrikaans. The roads are actually very good, designated A-D, and most are excellent dirt tracks. The country consists mostly of savanna and desert (64% savanna, 16% desert), thus it's very dry. However, a strong wind constantly whipped around us!

Am Donnerstag
starteten wir im Etosha Village (https://www.etosha-village.com),
beim Südeingang des Etosha Nationalparkes unsere 450 km und 5 Stunden Fahrt zum
Flughafen in Windhoek um 10 Uhr. Auf guten Strassen und einer Kaffeepause
erreichten wir Bluu Car Rental (https://www.bluucarrental.com) nach ziemlich genau 5'000 km total in 1 Monat. Wir hatten gemütlich Zeit mit dem Shuttle zum Terminal zu fahren und
einzuchecken. Alles verlief nach Plan und schon bald schlossen sich meine Augen
hoch oben in den Wolken.
On Thursday, we started our 450 km, 5-hour drive to Windhoek Airport at 10:00 AM from Etosha Village (https://www.etosha-village.com), near the southern entrance of Etosha National Park. After a coffee break on good roads, we arrived at Bluu Car Rental (https://www.bluucarrental.com) after a total of 5'000 droven km in 1 months. We had plenty of time to take the shuttle to the terminal and check in. Everything went according to plan and soon my eyes closed high up in the clouds.

Am
folgenden Morgen landete die Lufthansa (https://www.lufthansa.com)
pünktlich um 5:25 in Frankfurt, unser Weiterflug in die Schweiz eine Stunde später war also
garantiert. Und das war es: Um 8 Uhr holte Briges Sohn Tobi uns im Flughafen
Zürich ab und fuhr mich zu meiner Tochter und ihre Familie und seine Mutter
nach Hause…

following morning, Lufthansa (https://www.lufthansa.com)
landed in Frankfurt on time at 5:25 am, our onward flight to Switzerland an hour later was
guaranteed. And that’s how it was: At 8:00 am, Brige's son Tobi picked us up at
Zurich Airport and drove me to the house of my daughter an falmily and Brige
was droven homer…
