Am
Samstag genoss ich meinen letzten Morgen im Haile Resort (https://hailehotelsandresorts.com/hawassa-resort)
in Hawassa mit einem frühen Morgenkaffee - in fast allen Hotels in Äthiopien gibt
es eine traditionelle Kaffeeecke... für mich nur ideal und das mit bestem
Kaffee aus dem Heimatland der Kaffeebohne! : )
Nach
einem ausgiebigen Frühstück packte ich meine Koffer und legte mich an den Pool
bis Kalkidan kam um sich zu verabschieden... Ja, heute Nachmittag würde ich
nach Addis Abeba fliegen, wo ich meinen genialen Monat hier in Äthiopien
beenden werde...
On Saturday I enjoyed my last morning at the Haile Resort (https://hailehotelsandresorts.com/hawassa-resort) in Hawassa with an early morning coffee – almost all the hotels in Ethiopia have a traditional coffee corner... perfect for me and with the best coffee from the coffee bean's homeland! : )
After a leisurely breakfast, I packed my suitcases and relaxed by the pool until Kalkidan came to say goodbye... Yes, this afternoon I would be flying to Addis Ababa, where I would be ending my amazing month here in Ethiopia...

Der
Shuttlebus des Haile Resort brachte mich zum Flughafen auf die andere Seite des
Sees. Dort lief alles wie üblich ab und ich hatte mich inzwischen viel besser
organisiert fürs Aus- und Einpacken sowie Aus- und Anziehen... Auch der Flug
war pünktlich wie immer, so dass ich kurz vor 16 Uhr in Addis Abeba landete.
Ich wurde
vom Shuttlebus des Elilly Hotels (https://elillyhotel.com) abgeholt und eine halbe Stunde
später hatte ich mich bereits zum dritten Mal auf dieser Reise in diesem
herrlichen Hotel eingerichtet... Morgen werde ich den ganzen Tag Zeit haben
meine Koffer umzuorganisieren (vieles hatte ich bereits weggegeben und einen
meiner Koffer im Hotel gelassen) und mich dem Hotel SPA zu widmen...
The Haile Resort shuttlebus took me to the airport on the other side of the lake. Everything went as usual there and I had gotten much better organized getting my laptop out and back as well as getting undressed and dressed... The flight was also on time, as always, so I landed in Addis Ababa shortly before 4 pm.
I was picked up by the Elilly Hotel's (https://elillyhotel.com) shuttle bus, and half an hour later I was already settled into a room with balcony in this wonderful hotel for the third time on this trip... Tomorrow I'll have all day to reorganize my luggage (I've already given a lot away and had stored one of my suitcases at the hotel) and dedicate myself to the hotel SPA...

Ich hatte
vor zwei Monaten ein Visum für Tansania beantragt, der Status war aber
unverändert: erhalten und in Bearbeitung... war es, weil ich keinen Flug aus
Tansania gebucht hatte? Ich konnte schon mal nicht einreisen, letztes Jahr in
St. Kitts auf den Kleinen Antillen (https://franziskaaeschbach31.blogspot.com/2024/11/04112024-st-eustatius-st-kitts-navis.html)
und wollte diesen Stress nicht noch einmal, so dass ich kurzerhand einen Flug
von DarEssalaam nach Malawi buchte!
I applied for a Tanzanian visa two months ago, but the status remained unchanged: received and in progress... Was it because I hadn't booked a flight out from Tanzania? I was already denied entry last year in St. Kitts in the Lesser Antilles (https://franziskaaeschbach31.blogspot.com/2024/11/04112024-st-eustatius-st-kitts-navis.html) and didn't want that stress once more, so I quickly booked a flight from DarEssalaam to Malawi!

So
verging mein letzter Tag in Äthiopien wie im Nu und schon war es Montag, der 1.
Dezember! Der Shuttlebus des Hotel Elilly fuhr mich um 7 Uhr zum Flughafen...
genug früh, um im internationalen Teil des Flughafens durch alle Checks und
Kontrollen zu kommen. Es herrschte viel Flugverkehr, so dass wir eine halbe
Stunde warten mussten, bis wir endlich abhoben...
My last day in Ethiopia flew by, and before I knew it, it was Monday, December 1st! The Hotel Elilly shuttle bus took me to the airport at 7 am... early enough to get through all the checks and securities in the international section. There was a lot of air traffic, so we had to wait half an hour before we finally took off...

Mit einem
weinenden Auge verabschiedet ich mich von diesem genialen und äusserst
interessanten Reiseland Äthiopien, zum einen weil ich nicht alles besuchen
konnte (das Omo Valley im Süden war von einem Virus befallen), aber auch, weil
ich mich hier echt gut gefühlt hatte... zwei gute Gründe bestimmt wiederzukommen!
- Hier in Äthiopien geht alles oder wird zum Gehen gebracht! : ) Das Reisen hat
Spass gemacht nicht nur mit der zuverlässigen Ethiopian Airlines (https://www.ethiopianairlines.com), sondern auch mit den von Adem
der North Ethiopan Tours Operator (https://netoethiopiantour.com) organisierten Touren im ganzen Land! Und während
des ganzen Monates habe ich keinen Unfall gesehen - obschon man auf den
halsbrecherischen Strassen auf allerlei langsame Fahrzeuge wie auch Tiere
achten muss... die Fahrer sind extrem aufmerksam! Ja, die Menschen sind die
Seele einer Nation und hier habe ich sehr liebenswürdige getroffen... : ))
Die
Temperaturen schwanken im November zwischen 10° in der Nacht in Addis Abeba
(2600 m) bis 45° in der Danakil Depression (-120 m) - ich hatte Kleider für
jedes Wetter dabei. Aber nicht nur die Temperaturen sind extrem, sondern
Äthiopien besteht aus einer grossen Vielfalt von ethnischen Gruppen... es gibt
86 Sprachen mit eigenen Schriftzeichen (Amharic wird an den Schulen gelernt und
von allen gesprochen) und dann haben die Äthiopier ihr eigenen Zeitrechnung mit
Datum sowie Uhrzeit!
Aber mit einem lachenden Auge äugte ich zu meiner Auszeit auf der Insel Sansibar... dort war ich schon einmal vor 32 Jahren während einer Kreuzfahrt im indischen Ozean. Leider nur für einen Tag und vieles hat sich bestimmt verändert wie überall… ich war sehr gespannt auf mein nächstes Abenteuer...
With a heavy heart, I said goodbye to this amazing and incredibly interesting travel destination Ethiopia. Firstly, because I couldn't visit everything (the Omo Valley in the south was affected by a virus), but also because I had felt so good here... two good reasons to definitely come back! - Here in Ethiopia, anything is possible or make it going! : ) Traveling was fun, not only with the reliable Ethiopian Airlines (https://www.ethiopianairlines.com), but also with the tours organized throughout the country by Adem of North Ethiopia Tours Operator (https://netoethiopiantour.com)! And throughout the entire month I didn't see a single accident – although you have to watch out for all sorts of slow-moving vehicles and animals on the treacherous roads... the drivers are extremely attentive! Yes, the people are the soul of a nation, and I met a lot of very lovely ones here... : ))
Temperatures in November fluctuate between 10°C at night in Addis Ababa (2600 m) and 45°C in the Danakil Depression (-120 m) – I packed clothes for all kinds of weather. But it's not just the temperatures that are extreme; Ethiopia is made up of a great diversity of ethnic groups... there are 86 languageswith their own script (Amharic is taught in schools and spoken by everyone) and then Ethiopians have their own system of timekeeping, including date and local time!
But with my smiling heart I looked forward to my time out on the island of Zanzibar... I had been there once before, 32 years ago, during a cruise in the Indian Ocean. Unfortunately it was only for a day and I'm sure a lot has changed since then, as it does everywhere… I was looking forward to my next adventure…

Das
Willkommen auf Sansibar war perfekt: Trotz einer halben Stunde Verspätung wartete
Ochu (+41 77 454 99 06) am Flugplatz mit meinem Mietauto. Ocho ist der Mann von Moni, einer guten
Freundin von mir. Sie verbringen den Winter jeweils auf Sansibar und diesmal
würde ich sie besuchen! Nach einem kurzen Aufenthalt für ein Mittagessen und
Kauf einer lokalen SIM Karte, machten wir uns auf nach Bububu, wo die kleine
Familie für den ersten Monat eine Wohnung gebucht hatte. Was für ein schönes
Wiedersehen und Amira ist so sehr gewachsen, seit ich sie das letzte Mal vor
einem halben Jahr in Luzern sah!
The welcome to Zanzibar was perfect: Despite a half-hour delay, Ochu (+41 77 454 99 06) was waiting at the airport with my rental car. Ochu is the husband of Moni, a good friend of mine. They spend the winters in Zanzibar, and this time I was going to visit them! After a quick stop for lunch and to buy a local SIM card, we headed to Bububu, where the little family had booked an apartment for the first month. What a wonderful reunion! Amira has grown so much since I last saw her six months ago in Lucerne!

Von hier
war es noch 1 Stunde Fahrt Richtung Nord Osten, wo ich in Matemwe für zwei
Wochen ein Zimmer am Strand gebucht hatte... und das ich bei Tageslicht
erreichen wollte, damit ich sah, wo ich gelandet war! Ich schaffte die Strecke
mit vielen Schlaglöchern und gemeinen Strassenbarrikaden und hatte mich schon
schnell daran gewöhnt, auf der linken Strassenseite zu fahren. Und als ich im

von Eddie herzlich empfangen wurde und den wunderschönen Ort sah, war mir klar,
dass ich wieder das Richtige gebucht hatte: endlich Zeit zum Runterfahren! : )

From there, it was another hour's drive northeast to Matemwe, where I
had booked a room on the beach for two weeks… and I wanted to reach it before
dark so I could see where I had landed! I managed the journey, which was full
of potholes and nasty roadblocks, and I quickly got used to driving on the left
side of the road. And when Eddie warmly welcomed me to The Seles (https://theselesboutiquehotel.com)
and I saw the beautiful location, I knew I had once again made the right
choice: finally time to slow down! : )
