Sonntagmorgen um 10 Uhr war ich bereit für meine Weiterreise und bestellte ein Yango (https://yango.com) Taxi zum Intercity Bus Terminal in Lusaka. Als Bright im Louie Ville in den Mallside Apartments (+260 976 702 134) ankam, fragte ich ihn, ob er mich auch nach Siavonga fahren würde? Er schaute nach, was es mit Yango kosten würde und ich fand umgerechnet US-Dollar 100 für eine 200 km von 3 Stunden Fahrt ganz in Ordnung! Zudem war es Sonntag und ich wusste nicht, wie regelmässig die Busse fahren würden!?
Sunday morning at 10 am I was ready to continue my journey and booked a Yango (https://yango.com) taxi to the Intercity Bus Terminal in Lusaka. When Bright arrived at the Mallside Apartments (+260 976 702 134) in Louie Ville, I asked him if he would also drive me to Siavonga? He checked the cost by Yango and I thought the equivalent of US$100 for a 200 km and 3-hour drive was quite reasonable! Besides, it was Sunday and I didn't know how frequently the buses would run.

4 Stunden später erreichten wir die Lake Safari Lodge (https://www.lakesafari.com) und ich hatte unterwegs nicht viele Busse gesehen... Es war eine gute Entscheidung - auch die Wahl meiner Unterkunft: Zimmer mit Seesicht vom Bett und ein leckeres Restaurant in einem traumhaften Garten auf einer Halbinsel gelegen! : )
4 hours later we arrived at the Lake Safari Lodge (https://www.lakesafari.com) and I hadn't seen many buses along the way. It was a good decision - as was my choice of accommodation: a room with lake view from the bed and a delicious restaurant in a gorgeous garden on a peninsula! : )

In Siavonga war es bedeutend heisser als in Lusaka, wo es sehr windig war. Es ist das heisseste Gebiet Sambias, auch im Winter... nur die täglichen heftige Regenschauer und Gewitter, vor allem in der Nacht und früh morgens, bringen eine herrliche Abkühlung.
Montags verwandelt sich der ganze Ort in einem lebendigen und farbenfrohen Markt. Das Dorf erstreckt sich weit auf sanften Hügel entlang der Küste...
It was significantly hotter in Siavonga than in Lusaka, where it was very windy. It's the hottest region in Zambia, even in winter... only the daily heavy downpours and thunderstorms, especially at night and in the early morning, bring welcome relief.
On Mondays, the whole village transforms into a vibrant and colourful market. The village stretches far across gentle hills along the coast...

Siavonga
liegt weit weg vom Rest der Welt: 100 km und 2 h von der Hauptstrasse Lusaka -
Livingstone, an der Grenze zu Simbabwe. Als ich am Dienstag mit David und
seinem Taxi zum Kariba Staudamm fuhr, mussten wir unsere Ausweise beim Zoll
deponieren um auf den Damm zu gelangen... Die Grenze zwischen Zambia und
Simbabwe geht mitten durch den Sambesi Fluss und den 280 m langen Kariba Stausee...
so auch mitten durch den Damm. Er wurde in den 50-er Jahren gebaut und der See
galt damals als der grösste künstliche See unserer Erde...

Siavonga is far remote from the rest of the world: 100 km and 2 hours
from the main road Lusaka-Livingstone on the border with Zimbabwe. When I drove
to the Kariba Dam on Tuesday with David and his taxi, we had to leave our
passports at customs to access the dam... The border between Zambia and
Zimbabwe runs right through the Zambezi River and along the 280-meter-long
Kariba Lake... and also right through the dam itself. It was built in the 1950s
and at the time, the reservoir was considered the largest artificial lake in
the world...
