Heute Morgen ging es weiter von Lalibela nach Gondar... der Airport Shuttlebus der Hilltop Lodge (https://hilltoplodgelalibela.com) fuhr mich um 9 Uhr 1000 m runter zum kleinen Flughafen von Lalibela, der auf dem einzigen Plateau auf 1'600 m liegt. Auch für Inlandflüge muss man sich und sein Gepäck hier zweimal scannen lassen bis man sich in der Abflughalle befindet: Laptop raus und rein, Schuhe aus und an... Da ich nach dem Einchecken meiner Koffer noch 1 Stunde Zeit hatte, verbrachte ich diese draussen an der frischen Luft - was bedeutete: die ganze Morgengymnastik gleich noch einmal!
This morning I continued my journey from Lalibela to Gondar... at 9 am the Hilltop Lodge (https://hilltoplodgelalibela.com) airport shuttlebus took me down 1000 meters to the small Lalibela airport, which is situated on the only plateau at 1600 meters. Even for domestic flights you have to scan yourself and your luggage twice before you reach the departure hall: laptop out and in, shoes off and on... Since I had an hour to spare after checking my bags, I spent it outside in the fresh air – which meant doing all my morning exercises once more!

Eigentlich hatte ich vor länger in Lalibela zu bleiben, da aber nur heute ein Direktflug nach Gondar erhältlich war, änderte ich meine Pläne auf 2 Nächte - aber immerhin! : ) Nach einem wunderschönen Flug mit Ethiopian Airlines (https://www.ethiopianairlines.com) von 1/2 Stunde wurde ich in Gondar abgeholt, das Gondar Hills Resort (https://gondarhillsresort.com) hatte mir ein Taxi geschickt... und Miracle wusste wen sie schicken konnte, denn bei meiner Anfahrt verstand ich, dass nicht jeder diesen langen und steilen Pflastersteinweg durch den Wald der singenden Mönche auf sich nehmen wollte.
I had actually planned to stay longer in Lalibela, but since today was the only day with a direct flight to Gondar, I changed my plans to two nights – but at least 2 days! : ) After a wonderful half-hour flight with Ethiopian Airlines (https://www.ethiopianairlines.com) I was picked up in Gondar. The Gondar Hills Resort (https://gondarhillsresort.com) had sent me a taxi... and Miracle knew who to send, because on the drive there I realized that not everyone would want to tackle that long and steep cobblestone road through the forest of the singing monks.

Ich bezog mein grosses, schönes Zimmer weit weg vom Rummel und nahm ein Nickerchen - schliesslich ist Reisen nicht unanstrengend! ; ) Als ich kurz nach 16 Uhr erwachte, fühlte ich den Drang nach Bewegung und ging eine Runde durch den Wald der singenden Mönche joggen...
I settled into my large, beautiful room far away from the hustle and bustle and took a nap - after all, traveling isn't just easy! ; ) When I woke up shortly after 4 pm I felt the urge to move and went for a run through the forest of the singing monks...

Tewabe (+251 91 714 5014) von Lalibela hatte mir den Kontakt eines Freundes in Gondar gegeben, der ebenfalls als Fremdenführer arbeitet. Adem (+251 93 291 9301) , der North Ethiopian Tour Operator (https://netoethiopiantour.com), entpuppte sich auch als Freund von Goya in Addis Abeba - auch in Äthiopien ist die Welt klein! Adem nahm am Sonntag den beschwerlichen Weg zum Gondar Hills Resort auf sich und besuchte mich mit seinem Freund und Tuktuk Fahrer Nati - Sympathie auf den ersten Blick! : ) Wir besprachen Ausflüge und ich begann den ersten gleich, indem ich mit den beiden zurück in die Stadt zur Palastanlage fuhr:
Tewabe (+251 91 714 5014) from Lalibela had given me the contact information of a friend in Gondar, who also works as a tour guide. Adem (+251 93 291 9301), from North Ethiopian Tour Operator (https://netoethiopiantour.com), also turned out to be a friend of Goya in Addis Ababa - even in Ethiopia, it's a small world! On Sunday Adem came the arduous journey up to Gondar Hills Resort and visited me with his friend and tuktuk driver Nati – sympathy at first sight! : ) We discussed excursions and I started the first one right away by joining them back to the city to the palace complex:

Von 14 bis 17 Uhr war ich zu Fuss unterwegs mit Guide Salegeta (+251 98 207 6909), der mir viel Wissenswertes über Gondar, der 3. Hauptstadt Äthiopiens im 17. Jh. (nach Axum und Lalibela) zu erzählen hatte... so zum Beispiel, dass sich sechs Königspaläste auf dieser Anlage befinden, die im 2. Weltkrieg von den Engländern zerstört wurden als sie die Italiener bekämpften, die versuchten das letzte unkolonialisierte Land in Afrika einzuvernehmen... Seit einem Jahr wird mit vielen Arbeiten 24 Stunden am Tag restauriert und in einem weiteren Jahr sollte die ganze Anlage fertig gestellt sein.
From 2 to 5 pm I was on a peaceful walk with the guide Salegeta (+251 98 207 6909), who had a lot to tell about Gondar, the third capital of Ethiopia in the 17th century (after Axum and Lalibela)... for example, that there are six royal palaces on this site, which were destroyed by the British during World War II when they fought the Italians, who were trying to conquer the last uncolonized country in Africa... Restoration work with many workers has been underway around the clock for a year now, and the entire complex should be finished in another year.

Am Montag morgen wurde ich von Adem, seinem Fahrer und zwei israelisch Touristen abgeholt. Wir fuhren eine knappe Stunde, bis wir die Simien Berge in Kossoye erreichten... Dort machten wir eine 1 1/2 h Wanderung mit Sicht auf das fantastische Simien Bergmassiv, das Patchwork der Felder und sogar Baboons - einfach nur wunderschön!!!
On Monday morning, I was picked up by Adem, his driver, and two Israeli tourists. We drove for just under an hour until we reached the Simien Mountains in Kossoye... There we went on a 1 1/2-hour hike with views of the fantastic Simien Mountains, the patchwork of fields and even baboons – simply beautiful!!!

Auf dem Rückweg kehrten wir ins Master Sheff in Gondar ein und beendeten den Tag mit dem Kauf neuer Schuhe auf dem Arada Markt - meine Joggingschuhe haben die Wanderung nicht überlebt... ; )

On the way back, we stopped at Master Sheff in Gondar and ended the day by buying new shoes at the Arada Market – my running shoes didn't survive the hike... ; )
