Am 8. April wird meine Freundin Brigitte nach Windhoek fliegen um mit mir die letzten 3 Wochen meiner 6-monatigen Reise durch Afrika zu beenden... Deshalb machte ich mich auf, zuerst weiter Richtung Westen nach Rundu und dann langsam südwärts nach Windhoek...
On April 8th, my friend Brigitte will fly to Windhoek to join me for the final 3 weeks of my 6-month trip through Africa. So I set off, first heading west to Rundu and then slowly south towards Windhoek.

200 km und 2 Stunden nach Rundu standen heute auf dem Programm. Wie bereits erwähnt, auf meist fantastischen Strassen, wo man echt vorwärtskommt! In Rundu, der zweitgrössten Stadt Namibias, hatte ich etwas ausserhalb am Okowango ein Bungalow in der Tambuti Lodge (https://tambuti.com.na) reserviert. - Wieder hatte ich ein goldiges Händchen beim Auswählen! : )
Today's itinerary included 200 km and 2 hours to Rundu. As mentioned before, the roads were mostly fantastic, allowing for some great travel time! In Rundu, Namibia's second-largest city, I had booked a bungalow at the Tambuti Lodge (https://tambuti.com.na) just outside the city on the Okavango River. Once again, I had excellent luck with my choice! : )

Am Sonntag ging es weiter Richtung Süden: 250 km und 3 Stunden nach Grootfontein. Dort hatte ich eine Nacht in The Shop Farm (+264 81 7237 388) reserviert, lud meine sieben Sachen aus und fuhr 15 km auf guter Erdpiste zum Hoba Meteorit (und wieder zurück)... dem grössten Metallblock aus dem All, den man bisher auf unserer Erde entdeckt hat.
On Sunday, I continued south: 250 km and 3 hours to Grootfontein. There, I had booked a night at The Shop Farm (+264 81 7237 388), unloaded my belongings, and drove 15 km on a good dirt track to the Hoba Meteorite (and back)... the largest metal fragment from space discovered on Earth so far...

Am nächsten Morgen nach dem Frühstück ging es 250 km und 3 Stunden weiter Richtung Süden nach Otjiwarongo... die letzten 45 km auf glatter Naturpiste. Im Cheetah View Camp (https://cheetah.org/cheetah-ecolodge) hatte ich 2 Nächte gebucht: Ein weiteres Waisenhaus für Tiere, das sich auf dieser Reise besuche... hier werden Geparde, die in Privatbesitz gehalten werden, gerettet und wenn möglich wieder in die Natur integriert...
The next morning, after breakfast, I continued south for 250 km and 3 hours to Otjiwarongo... the last 45 km on a smooth dirt track. I had booked two nights at Cheetah View Camp (https://cheetah.org/cheetah-ecolodge): another animal sanctuary I visited on this trip... here, cheetahs kept as private property are rescued and, if possible, reintegrated into the wild.

Ich hatte
grosse Freude zu beobachten, wie holistisch hier gearbeitet wird: Die Farmer
werden mit einbezogen und aufgeklärt über die Bedrohung der Geparde und Natur.
Es wird auch eine Lösung geboten: Türkische Jagdhunde werden gezüchtet,
trainiert und für wenig Geld an die Farmer verkauft als Bewachung für ihr
Vieh... Weiter gibt es eine Käserei, wo die Farmer lernen als Bereicherung
Ziegenkäse herzustellen - und so vieles mehr, am besten man geht sich selber
inspirieren lassen! : ))

I was delighted to observe the holistic approach taken here: The farmers
are involved and educated about the threats facing cheetahs and the
environment. A solution is also offered: Turkish hunting dogs are bred, trained
and sold to the farmers for a small fee to guard their livestock. There's also
a cheese dairy, where farmers learn to make goat cheese as a supplementary profit
– and so much more. The best thing to do is go and get inspired yourself! : ))
