Am Samstag holte mich Michaels Sohn und Freunde mit einem Tuktuk, wie vereinbart um 12 Uhr bei Bahari ab, und fuhr mich zur Bushaltestelle beim Kibo Complex in Tegeta. Ich zeigte mein online Ticket und die Busjungs sagen okay, ich soll im Schatten warten. 13 Uhr Abfahrt verstand ich von Tegeta... als der Bus um 13:30 Uhr immer noch nicht da war, fragte ich einmal nach... Hier sprechen nur wenige gut Englisch, so war es ziemlich schwierig für mich, mich zu verständigen... Deshalb kontaktierte ich Sameer in Tanga, wo ich übernachten werde, und fragte ob er bitte mal im Ashriff Büro anrufen könne um nachzufragen, wann und ob der Bus heute noch kommt? Sameer hatte seine Mühe durchzukommen, informierte mich aber, dass die Abfahrtszeit ab DarEssalaam ist... also wartete ich nochmals 2 Stunden. Als der Bus um 15 Uhr immer noch nicht in da war, beauftragte ich die Busjungs mir einen anderen Bus oder einen geteilten Privattransport zu organisieren. Ich war aber nicht die Einzige, die von her weg wollte… so dauerte es nochmals 1 1/2 Stunden bis ich neben Salaman in seiner Rakete sass! - Wow, das war eine Fahrt… oder besser gesagt: ein Flug… sogar die Polizisten schienen ihn zu kennen, denn sie nahmen ehrfürchtig ihren Hut und verbeugten sich, als er vorbeisauste! : )

Um 21 Uhr kam ich endlich in Tanga an, wo Sameer mich abholte und die 10 km und 15 Minuten zu seiner Mwambani Beach Villa (https://mwambanibeachvillastanga.tz-com.com) fuhr. Dort bezog ich mein Apartment für eine Nacht (da ich einen Tag früher angereist war, würde meines morgen frei werden) und fiel todmüde in meinem Bett...

Übrigens hatte ich Michael (Bahatis Freund) informiert, dass der Bus nie kam... er soll bitte seinen Freund fragen, was da los ist? - Er antwortete nur: Sein Freund habe nicht geantwortet... : (

On Saturday as planned, Michael's son and friends picked me up by tuktuk from Bahari at noon and drove me to the bus stop at the Kibo Complex in Tegeta. I showed my online ticket and the busboy said okay, I should wait in the shade. I understood the departure time to be 1 pm from Tegeta... when the bus still hadn't arrived by 1:30 pm I went to inform myself about it. Few people here speak good English, so it was quite difficult for me to communicate. Therefore, I contacted Sameer in Tanga, where I will be staying the following nights, and asked if he could please call the Ashriff office to inquire when, or even if, the bus would arrive today. Sameer had trouble getting through but informed me that the departure time was from Dar es Salaam... so I waited another two hours. When the bus still hadn't shown up by 3 pm, I asked the busboys to arrange another bus or a shared private transport for me. I wasn't the only one who wanted to leave... so it took another 1 1/2 hour before I was sitting next to Salaman in his rocket! Wow, what a ride... or rather, a flight... even the police officers seemed to know him, because they respectfully tipped their hats and bowed as he whizzed past! : )

At 9 pm I finally reached Tanga, where Sameer picked me up and drove the 10 km and 15 minutes to his Mwambani Beach Villa (https://mwambanibeachvillastanga.tz-com.com). There I checked into an apartment for one night (since I had arrived a day earlier, mine would be available tomorrow) and collapsed into bed, exhausted...

By the way, I had informed Michael (Bahati's friend) that the bus never came... I asked him to please ask his friend what was going on? - He only replied that his friend hadn't answered... : (

Am nächsten Tag erwartete mich eine wunderschöne Anlage direkt am Meer! - Ideal um bei Ebbe joggen zu gehen! : ) Schon bald konnte ich in mein Apartment wechseln und mich richtig einrichten. Übrigens ist Sameer ein Superhost: Er kümmert sich liebevoll um seine Gäste und hilft mit wirklich allem - danke! : )

The next day, a beautiful resort right on the beach awaited me! Perfect for jogging at low tide! : ) I was soon able to move into my apartment and settle in. By the way, Sameer is a super host: He takes lovingly care of his guests and helps with absolutely everything – thank you! : )

Am Nachmittag nahm mich Sameer und sein Fahrer Abu mit in die Stadt, wo ich auf einem Spaziergang das ruhige Städtchen mit deutschen Spuren auskundschaftete.

Am Montag fuhr mich Raheem mit seinem Motorrad zu den Ambioni Caves, ein Tunnelsystem, das bis nach Mombasa reicht! Wir machten eine abkühlende Tour durch die weissen Höhlen mit vielen Fledermäusen. Draussen war es heiss, aber auf dem Motorrad fühlte ich mich luftig und frei... Weiter ging es auf der Suche nach einer Schwefelquelle, von denen es hier einige hat: Als wir eine gefunden hatten, wuschen wir unsere Hände, Füsse und Gesicht, füllten unsere leeren Wasserflaschen und dann ging es zurück. Im Hashtag Café, dass ich gestern in der Stadt Tanga entdeckt hatte, lud ich Raheem zu einem Cappuccino und einem Schokoeis ein - leeecker!

On Monday, Raheem took me on his motorbike to the Ambioni Caves, a tunnel system that extends all the way to Mombasa! We took a refreshing tour through the white caves, which were full of bats. Outside it was hot, but on a motorbike I felt well-ventilated and free... Next we went in search of a sulphur spring, of which there are several here: When we found one, we washed our hands, feet and faces, refilled our empty water bottles and then headed back. At the Hashtag Café, which I had discovered yesterday in the town of Tanga, I treated Raheem and me to a cappuccino and a chocolate ice cream – deliiicious!

Den letzten Tag unseres Kalenderjahres verbrachte ich noch ein letztes Mal im indischen Ozean, bevor es weiter Richtung Westen quer durch Afrika geht: Per Motorrad wurde ich zum Yachtclub gefahren, wo mich Dennis und Norbert für eine Bootsfahrt zu den vielen grossen Frachtschiffen und zur Sandbank erwarteten... Und wie immer, wenn Afrikaner Weisse sehen, denken sie automatisch an eine Geldquelle und zapften mir TS 10'000 (ca. USD 4) Eintritt ab! - Die Diskrepanz des Geldwertes ist unglaublich, zum Beispiel: So bezahlte ich für das Ashriff Busticket DarEssalaam - Tanga (300 km und 6 Stunden Fahrt) TS 22'000 (USD 9), mit Salama und seinem geteilten Privattransport kostete es 30'000 TS (USD 12)... gerne bezahlte ich zusätzlich 2 Sitze für meine Koffer! Hingegen ein Taxi, das mit den Touristenwerten bekannt ist, verlangt für diese Strecke USD 150! : (

Und ja, auch jeder neue Tag soll ein glücklicher Tag sein, nicht nur zum Jahreswechsel! Naja, es gibt ja nicht nur unsere Kultur und Zeitrechnung...

I spent the last day of our calendar year one last time in the Indian Ocean before continuing west across Africa: I was driven by motorbike to the yacht club, where Dennis and Norbert were waiting for me for a boat trip to the large cargo vessels and the sandbank... And as always when Africans see white people, they automatically think of a source of money and charged me 10,000 TS (approx. USD 4) for entry! - The discrepancy in the value of money is unbelievable, for example: I paid 22,000 TS (USD 9) for the Ashriff bus ticket from Dar Essalaam to Tanga (300 km and a 6-hour journey), with Salama and his shared private transport it cost 30,000 TS (USD 12)... and I gladly paid extra for two seats for my luggage! Meanwhile, a taxi knowing tourist fares would have charged USD 150 for the same route! : (

And yes, every new day should be a happy day, not just at the turn of the year! Well, there's more to life than just our culture and way of reckoning time...
