Langsam
ging meine Zeit hier in Äthiopien zu Ende... noch eine Woche und dann würde ich
nach Sansibar fliegen. Leider konnte ich das Omo Valley im Süden nicht
besuchen, da der Virus Marburg schon seine Todesopfer gefordert hatte... So
nahm ich es hier im Norden etwas gemütlicher und beschloss noch einige Tage in
Hawassa, etwa 300 km südlich von Addis Abeba zu verbringen.
Zuerst
aber stand mein Flug von Axum nach Addis Abeba an... der Shuttlebus des Yared
Zema Hotels (https://yaredzemainternationalhotelaxum.com) fuhr mich zum kleinen
Flughafen, wo alles wie üblich ablief: Laptop raus und rein, Schuhe und Jacken
aus und an - aber wenigstens liessen sie uns überall in Äthiopien die
Wasserflaschen! : )
My time here in Ethiopia was slowly coming to an end... just one more week and then I would be flying to Zanzibar. Unfortunately, I couldn't visit the Omo Valley in the south, as the Marburg virus had already claimed lives. Consequently I took things a bit easier here in the north and decided to spend a few days in Hawassa, about 300 km south of Addis Ababa.
First though, was my flight from Axum to Addis Ababa. The shuttle bus from the Yared Zema Hotel (https://yaredzemainternationalhotelaxum.com) took me to the small airport, where everything proceeded as usual: laptop out and in, shoes and jackets off and on again - but at least they let us keep our water bottles everywhere in Ethiopia! : )

Der fast
eineinhalbstündige Flug war pünktlich, wie bisher alle Ethiopian Airlines (https://www.ethiopianairlines.com) Flüge - sie ist eine sehr zuverlässige Fluglinie,
die fast alle Destinationen in Afrika bedient... auch die ideale Reiseart hier
in Äthiopien für die weiten umgänglichen Strecken.
The almost hour-and-a-half flight was on time, like all my Ethiopian Airlines (https://www.ethiopianairlines.com) flights so far - it's a very reliable airline that serves almost all destinations in Africa... also the ideal way to travel here in Ethiopia the long, unmanageable distances.

In Addis Abeba bestieg ich den Shuttlebus zum Hotel Elilly (https://elillyhotel.com), wo ich auf dieser Reise bereits das zweite Mal eincheckte - es war wie ein Nachhausekommen... ja auch das ist sehr bequem: Fast jedes Hotel besitzt einen Shuttle Bus vom und zum Flughafen!
Ich genoss meine zwei Nächte im bequemen Bett, mit etwas Ansonnen für Sansibar, die Hotelsauna und -dampfbad sowie eine geniale Massage... nun war ich bereit für das letzte Kapitel in Äthiopien! ; )
In Addis Ababa, I boarded the shuttlebus to the Hotel Elilly (https://elillyhotel.com), where I was checking in for the second time on this trip – it felt like coming home... and yes, that's also very convenient: Most hotels have a shuttlebus to and from the airport!
I enjoyed my two nights in the comfortable bed, with a bit of pretanning for Zanzibar, the hotel sauna and steam bath and a fantastic massage... now I was ready for the final chapter in Ethiopia! ; )

Auf einem
Spaziergang in die Stadt inspizierte ich Busse sowie halbprivate Transporte
nach Hawassa... es gibt zwar Flüge, aber eine Richtung per Auto wäre sehr
abwechslungsreich! Mit Awal, einem Broker, fand ich ein verlässlicher Freund,
der mir versprach, mich morgen mit dem halbprivaten Autofahrer im Hotel
abzuholen... Die Fahrt (ca. 300 km) kostet übrigens 10 US-Dollar und dauert
minimum 4 1/2 Stunden...
On a walk into town, I checked out buses and semi-private transport options to Hawassa... there are flights, but traveling one way by car would be a much more exciting experience! With Awal, a broker, I found a reliable friend who promised to pick me up from the hotel tomorrow with a semi-private driver. The trip (about 300 km) costs $10 and takes at least 4.5 hours.

Und ja,
es funktionierte: Awal stand mit dem Fahrer Abdi um 12 Uhr vor dem Ellily
Hotel! Wir fuhren zum Mexico Commerce, wo die privaten Autos vier Passagiere
nach Hawassa aufluden. Awal lud mich zu einem Kaffee ein und eine halbe Stunde
später war das Auto voll und wir fuhren los Richtung Süden. Es war eine sehr
interessante und lustige Truppe und wir hatten sehr viel Spass... so dass wir
mehr als 6 Stunden unterwegs waren... denn wir hielten unterwegs an um uns mit
Vitaminen aufzufüllen und etwas später, in der Hälfte in Batu, luden sie mich
alle zum Abendessen ein! : ))
And yes, it worked out: Awal and the driver Abdi were waiting in front of the Ellily Hotel at noon! We drove to Mexico Commerce, where the private cars picked up four passengers to Hawassa. Awal treated me to a coffee, half an hour later the car was full, and we set off direction south. It was a very interesting and fun group and we had a great time... so the journey took more than 6 hours... We stopped along the way to refuel with vitamins and later, halfway in Batu, they all invited me for dinner! : ))

Seeblick ein, den ich zwar in der Dunkelheit nicht sah, mich aber darauf
freuend einschlief...

Hawassa... tired, I settled into my beautiful room with lake view, which I
couldn't see in the darkness, but I fell asleep looking forward to it...
